Extended Learning and Homework
Extended Learning and Homework is an essential part of learning at Gordano and completion of work set by subjects is taken extremely seriously. Praise and rewards will be given by subject teachers for excellent effort and work produced whilst missed deadlines will be recorded on Class Charts, our online student reporting service.
All Extended Learning and Homework will be uploaded by subject teachers to students’ timetables on Firefly, along with any necessary resources students require to complete tasks. Paper copies will be available for any students without ICT access. Deadlines should be recorded by students in their journals along with interim deadlines for longer project style tasks.
Extended Learning and Homework in Years 7 and 8
Depending on the subject, Year 7 students will be set weekly, more traditional Homework activities or longer project style Extended Learning tasks as outlined below. This is to support learning in the classroom and to help students develop key time management skills in preparation for moving towards a homework timetable for all subjects in Year 9.
Approximately 1 project per subject per term

Modern Foreign Languages (French, German and Spanish)
Extended Learning will be set termly by the subjects listed above and will often involve longer project based activities with a choice of outcome or task. There will be an emphasis on creativity, research and practical skills and expectations for projects/ tasks will be outlined by staff when projects are set. Typically, projects will take 2-3 weeks to complete and to help students manage their time effectively.
Weekly Homework will be set for English, Maths and Modern Foreign Languages.
Homework in Years 9 to 11
Year 9-11 students will be set weekly homework in each subject, this is to support learning in the classroom and to help students develop key time management skills during their GCSEs. Working at home is a crucial part of success at GCSE and students may be asked to do longer homeworks than before. Year 9 students are expected to spend at least 35 minutes on a piece of homework and Year 10 and 11 students at least 45 minutes and will also have additional study to do at home such as revision and coursework. Any students worried about the amount of work they have to do or who are finding planning work at home difficult should speak to their tutors. Praise and rewards will be given by subject teachers for excellent effort and work whilst missed deadlines will be recorded on Class Charts.
