Record-Breaking Futures Week at Gordano School Showcases Student Talent and Community Spirit

The Careers Department at Gordano School is proud to announce the most successful Futures Week in its history. This year, an unprecedented number of Year 10 students secured Work Experience (WEX) placements, with around 99% taking part.

“This was no small task, and we are incredibly proud of our students,” said Sue Jones, Careers Advisor. “We also want to extend our sincere thanks to all the employers who welcomed our students. Your support is vital, and we deeply appreciate it.”

Year 12 students also benefitted from an exciting programme of opportunities, including workshops led by universities, employers, and apprenticeship providers. They further developed their employability through mock interviews with industry professionals, and practical life skills sessions such as ‘How to Cook on a Budget’.

The week concluded with a community litter pick in partnership with Portishead Marina, before students headed off to their own work experience placements.

Nancy from Portishead Marina Boatfolk praised the students’ efforts, saying:
“The students did a great job, and we really appreciated it. It would be great to have them here every year—in fact, every week!”

Futures Week 2025 has set a new benchmark for student engagement, employer partnership, and community collaboration at Gordano School, leaving a lasting impact on both students and the local community.
