Year 4 and 5 pupils from local primary schools had an action-packed afternoon at the ‘Give it a Try’ Laser Run and Obstacle Relay Festival at Gordano School, where they had the exciting opportunity to experience three of the five disciplines that make up the Olympic sport of Modern Pentathlon.
Held as part of Gordano School’s Outreach Programme to aid the transition for primary school students to secondary, the Gordano Legacy festival introduced students to the dynamic world of Laser Run - combining running and laser shooting - as well as a challenging obstacle relay course designed to build coordination, speed, and agility. The event aimed to give children a taste of this unique multi-sport discipline in a fun, supportive, and engaging environment.
47 pupils from St Peters, St Josephs and Trinity took part.
Throughout the afternoon, pupils displayed tremendous enthusiasm, passion, determination, and teamwork - embodying the core values of the School Games. Event organisers and staff were thoroughly impressed by the energy and commitment shown by every participant.
“We were delighted to see the children embrace the experience with such excitement,” said Emma Harradine, Head of PE. “They tackled each activity with courage and resilience, and it was fantastic to witness their support for one another throughout the festival.”
“This 'Give it a Try' festival not only provided a fun introduction to Modern Pentathlon, but also encouraged children to step outside their comfort zones, try something new, and work collaboratively with their peers. We hope the pupils enjoyed the opportunity to take part in this alternative festival and that it may even spark an interest in Modern Pentathlon for the future, or give participants the confidence to give other new activities a try!” said Shane German, North Somerset SGO and Primary PE Association Lead
