Key Stage 4 students achieve outstanding results in the Intermediate Maths Challenge

On 29th January 116 students across Years 9, 10 and 11 competed in the Intermediate Maths Challenge.

These students volunteered their time to have a go at a tricky paper containing 25 Maths problem solving questions, and there were some outstanding results. 10 students earned Gold certificates, and we'd like to extend our congratulations to them: Josh, Jerry, Jacob and Florence (all Year 9); Alice, Beatrice, Jack and Evan (all Year 10); and Will in Year 11. Special recognition goes to Will and Beatrice, who were the best in their year groups, and to Florence who achieved the highest score Year 9 and the entire school. In addition, 18 students received Silver certificates and 32 earned Bronze certificates.

All students who participated should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Looking ahead, we’re excited for the Junior Maths Challenge for Year 7 and Year 8 students on 1st May. If you’d like to challenge yourself with some of this year’s IMC questions, you can find a few selected ones below. It’s worth noting that most questions have a ‘neat’ way of thinking about them, even if it is possible to do them with ‘brute force’. Enjoy!
