Gordano School Celebrates World Book Day with an Array of Activities

Gordano School has championed the fun of reading with an array of activities to celebrate World Book Day 2025.

Staff dressed up for the occasion with incredible costume efforts including Gangsta Granny, Gandalf and a whole team of Where’s Wally while others wore an ‘ask me about my book’ lanyard with details about a book they’ve enjoyed.

During tutor time students were invited to get creative and design a National Book Token gift card for the World Book Day annual competition and Year 7 students enjoyed a Great Big World Book Day Footy and Booky quiz.

Students also took part in ‘flash fiction’ discussing a different genre per lesson and prizes were available thanks to the scavenger hunt in the library, where there was also a book fair and book giveaway.

Claire Crosby, World Book Day co-ordinator and Head of English, said ‘we put a full program of events in place to celebrate World Book Day because it’s such an important part of the school calendar. Children reading for fun is the single biggest indicator that a child will grow up to enjoy a happier and more successful life – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational backgrounds or their income – so we really aim to promote that here at Gordano.’

World Book Day is a charity that operates in the UK and Ireland, on a mission to encourage children to see reading as an entertaining, social and fun thing to do. They want more children to grow up with a life-long, life-changing habit of reading for fun, and all the benefits this brings.
