Celebrating the European Day of Languages at Gordano School

Every year, our Languages Department proudly celebrates the European Day of Languages – a Europe-wide event held annually on 26th September to promote linguistic diversity and cultural awareness.
This term, our Year 7 students embraced the opportunity to use their newly acquired language skills at our vibrant Language Café, confidently ordering a pain au chocolat, napolitana, or brioche in French or Spanish. Their enthusiasm and confidence were truly impressive!
A huge thank you to our A Level students who volunteered as waiters in support of the event – their help made the experience even more special for our younger learners.
To add to the festive atmosphere, we offered face painting with European flags, allowing students to proudly display the colours of different nations and celebrate the rich tapestry of European cultures.
”Every year, we enjoy this opportunity to promote the importance of language learning while celebrating Europe's different languages and cultures, as well as the amazing talents and creativity of our students!”

We also held our annual cookery competition for Years 7 and 8, where students showcased their culinary creativity by preparing dishes inspired by European cuisine. The results were delicious and beautifully presented – well done to all who took part!

These events not only celebrate languages but also foster a sense of global citizenship and cultural appreciation among our students. We’re already looking forward to next year’s celebrations!
