Gordano School Celebrates a Vibrant and Inspiring Activities Week

Gordano School has successfully wrapped up its highly anticipated Activities Week - an extraordinary annual highlight that offers students an exciting variety of experiences beyond the classroom.

This year, over 1,000 students took part in over 40 off-site trips across three-year groups. Over half of our students attended a residential trip and a host of on-site activities designed to engage, challenge, and inspire were also enjoyed.

Each summer term, the regular timetable is paused as students dive into a broad programme of enrichment opportunities. For Years 7, 8, and 9, Activities Week is a chance to step into a world of adventure, creativity, and exploration. From team-building challenges and cultural experiences to creative workshops and thrilling outdoor pursuits, the week is all about igniting curiosity and building confidence.

One parent commented: ‘My daughter has literally had the best week of her life! Staying in a hotel room with her best friend, shopping, restaurants, theme parks… she’s been living her best life - what a wonderful experience for a 14 year old! I’m actually very jealous myself!.’ While another said: ‘The range of activities is absolutely amazing at Gordano! There is an option for everyone: price and interests. Our children are so lucky!!’

Year 7 students enjoyed a three-day PGL residential at Osmington Bay, visits to Bristol Zoo Project and physical theatre workshops by Circomedia. The residential included activities such as abseiling, archery, raft building, and beach walks, as well as relaxed evening entertainment like discos, games, and movie nights—providing the youngest cohort with unforgettable memories and friendships to carry through their school journey. One student said: All staff were kind, funny, caring and friendly and I’ve made lots of new friends. I loved every second of it, thank you!’

Year 8 enjoyed a fun-filled week featuring a range of energetic and recreational activities, including Adventure Bristol, West Country Water Park, Planet Ice, Vue Cinema, Ninja Warrior, Bowling, and Mojo Active. Capturing the spirit of joy and camaraderie that defined the week, one student shared: ‘The week was impressive, I loved visiting different places, being involved in different activities outside the school and having a nice time with my school mates’.

Year 9 students had the choice to stay at ‘base camp’ for a rich schedule of on-site activities—from craft workshops and Mandarin lessons to sports, film-making, and an onsite Football academy —or to join one of several outstanding residential trips. Popular destinations included Cultural London, the Maritime Isle of Wight, Adrenaline West Midlands, and Watersports in Falmouth, each offering a unique blend of learning, exploration, and adventure.

Louise Blundell, Headteacher commented:
"Gordano School truly goes above and beyond with its Activities Week and year-round Trips Programme. The scale and variety on offer are unparalleled in the region. These opportunities reflect our deep commitment to enriching education and creating engaging, memorable experiences that help every student thrive.”

While younger students explored new environments and activities, Year 10 pupils focused on their futures through work experience placements. These placements provide real-world insight into professional life, helping students develop essential skills, clarify their career aspirations, and enhance their CVs. For many, this proves to be a pivotal and empowering part of their school journey.

Activities Week is more than just a change of pace—it’s a cornerstone of Gordano’s approach to holistic education, nurturing not only academic growth but personal development, resilience, and aspiration.

And the journey doesn't end there.

Gordano School is proud to offer the most extensive annual school trips programme in the region, giving students a wealth of opportunities to broaden their horizons. From European cultural exchanges and outdoor challenges across the UK to subject-led expeditions and performing arts tours, learning at Gordano stretches far beyond the classroom walls.

Upcoming enrichment trips students are looking forward to are : sixth form trip to new York for 30 Business and Economics students in February half term 2026 and a ski trip to Italy for 60 Year 10 and 12 students over the Easter holidays in 2026.

At its heart, Gordano is far more than a place to study—it’s a place to belong, explore, and become. With a culture that nurtures the whole child, the school delivers excellence in teaching, a breadth of opportunity rarely matched, and a community that celebrates every individual.
