Year 8 Students Explore Glacial Landscapes at Cheddar Gorge

In May, our Year 8 Geography students had the exciting opportunity to visit Cheddar Gorge as part of their Key Stage 3 fieldwork studies.

This hands-on experience allowed students to collect vital primary data to support their classroom learning. Fieldwork is a core component of the Geography curriculum, and Cheddar Gorge provided a unique and inspiring setting to investigate glacial landscapes, a topic they have recently been exploring in lessons.

During the trip, students engaged in a range of activities designed to deepen their understanding of how glacial processes have shaped the landscape. They observed landforms, took measurements, and recorded observations that they will now analyse and interpret back in the classroom.

Fieldwork is an essential part of learning Geography. It brings the subject to life and helps students make meaningful connections between theory and the real world. We’re fortunate to have access to such a distinctive location, and the students made the most of the opportunity to apply their knowledge in the field.

The data collected will now be used in follow-up sessions at school, where students will develop their analytical skills and draw conclusions from their findings.

Well done to all involved for their enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the trip!
