Gordano School Celebrates a Successful Science Week with Engaging Hands-On Activities
Gordano School has celebrated an exciting and educational Science Week that saw students enthusiastically participating in a variety of practical science sessions throughout each lunch break. The event offered an opportunity for students to engage directly with the wonders of science, deepening their understanding through hands-on experiences and experiments.
Over the course of the week, a range of activities took place, including a rat dissection, chemical reactions, lasers and Rubens tube demonstrations, and an investigation of food dyes using chromatography. These sessions provided a dynamic and interactive way for students to explore different aspects of the scientific world, sparking curiosity and encouraging them to think critically about the concepts they were learning.
To further enhance engagement, the school introduced a loyalty card scheme, where students received a merit for attending each session, with the chance to double their merits if they participated in four or more sessions during the week. This initiative encouraged participation and fostered a sense of achievement among students as they explored new scientific concepts each day.
An impressive number of students from Years 7-9 attending every session throughout the week, showing dedication and a genuine enthusiasm for science. These students demonstrated a remarkable commitment to their learning and were recognised for their efforts with special awards.
Science Week at Gordano School was an outstanding success. It was fantastic to see so many students engaging with science in such an active and hands-on way. The loyalty card scheme encouraged students to attend multiple sessions and discover different aspects of science they may not have considered before. I’m incredibly proud of the students who attended every session, and I look forward to seeing how this experience will inspire them in their future scientific endeavours.
