Gordano Sixth Form Historians Attend Tudor Conference at Bristol University

Gordano School’s Year 13 History students have enjoyed an enriching and inspiring trip to University of Bristol.

The group attended a free conference hosted by the Historical Association, designed specifically for A-Level History students and teachers.

The event focused on key Tudor themes, offering valuable insight and support for upcoming examinations.

Students had the opportunity to hear from a range of expert speakers, including Professor Ronald Hutton, Professor at Bristol, who delivered a fascinating talk on Tudor rebellions. Dr Tracy Borman, Chief Historian at Historic Royal Palaces, explored the life of Henry VIII and the influential figures around him, while Dr Sean Cunningham from The National Archives examined the themes of treason and trust during the reign of Henry VII.

The students engaged thoughtfully with the material, took extensive notes, and some showed great confidence by asking insightful questions to the speakers. They were all a credit to Gordano Sixth Form.

One Year 13 student commented, “It was really helpful to hear from leading historians and get a deeper understanding of topics we’ve studied in class. The talks made the Tudor period feel much more engaging and relevant.”

Rebecca Griffiths, Head of History at Gordano School added, “The students were outstanding ambassadors for Gordano Sixth Form. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to engage with such high-level material made the day especially rewarding.”

Overall, it was a wonderful experience that deepened students’ understanding of the Tudor period and brought their A-Level studies to life.
