Year 10 Students Enjoy a Live Performance of Macbeth

Year 10 students recently attended a live performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, performed in school by the visiting theatre company Box Clever Productions.
This engaging 60-minute performance provided students with a valuable opportunity to see the play in its intended dramatic form, while consolidating their knowledge of the plot, characters and key quotations. Both the original Shakespearean language and modern-day translations were used throughout, which created an immersive and accessible rendition of Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy. The performance included opportunities for students to play specific parts, with many of these students directly quoting the original text in front of almost 200 audience members!
Miss Dawson (Co-head of English) commented, “it was brilliant to see students so engaged and willing to perform Shakespeare with such confidence and enthusiasm.”
Following the performance, students took part in a 30-minute interactive workshop led by the actors. During the session, students explored how key characters and themes are presented within the play, which encouraged a deeper understanding and some thoughtful discussion around these elements of the text.
Student Jenna said: “ I enjoyed how interactive it was and how it was fast paced. It helped me to understand the play better because I could see it in person”.
The visit was an excellent opportunity for students to enhance their understanding of Macbeth, ahead of their GCSE English Literature exam next summer, while enjoying a professional theatre experience in school.
