Students Honoured at Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award Celebration at Buckingham Palace

A truly special event took place at Buckingham Palace recently, where students from across the country were celebrated for their remarkable achievement in completing the Duke of Edinburgh's (DofE) Gold Award. Among the honourees were three outstanding young people from Gordano School.

Current Year 13 student Joe Welsh, along with Hamish Lawrence-Tarr and Bertie Williams, both former students, were invited to attend the prestigious Gold Award Celebration Event in recognition of their hard work, commitment, and perseverance in achieving the highest level of the DofE programme.

Representing the school at this national celebration was a genuine honour. The event, hosted in the magnificent gardens of Buckingham Palace, brought together Gold Award recipients and their families to mark this major milestone in their personal development journey.

“We are incredibly proud of Joe, Hamish, and Bertie for their dedication and determination,” said Mrs Allen, Deputy Lead for Outdoor Education at Gordano School. “The Gold Award represents a significant accomplishment, and to see our students celebrated at such a prestigious venue is both inspiring and thoroughly well-deserved.”

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is widely recognised for helping young people build confidence, resilience, and skills for life. Achieving the Gold level is a testament to months – and often years – of volunteering, physical challenge, skills development, expedition, and residential activities.

Congratulations once again to Joe, Hamish, and Bertie on this fantastic achievement.
