Primary pupils take on Physical Literacy Multiskills Festival at Gordano School

Gordano School welcomed 77 Year 3 and 4 pupils from High Down, St Peter’s, Trinity and St Joseph’s for an exciting Physical Literacy Multiskills Festival, bringing primary schools together for a day of teamwork, determination and fun.
The festival saw pupils working in teams to tackle ten different physical literacy challenges, putting their skills, coordination and problem-solving to the test. From Kurling: Fill the House, where teams aimed to get all ten stones onto a target within the allocated time, to On Serve, which challenged pupils to drop-serve a shuttlecock into a target, there were plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and try something different.
Some challenges proved trickier than others, including On Serve and Putting Toad in the Hole, but the children showed fantastic determination and self-belief, with every team achieving maximum points in several activities.
Throughout the festival, students demonstrated the School Games values of Passion, Determination and Self-belief, alongside the main focus of the day: Teamwork. It was wonderful to see children encouraging one another, celebrating their successes and persevering when faced with a challenge.
Activities like this are an important part of Gordano School’s incredible transition programme, helping to build strong relationships with our local primary schools and create positive experiences for children well before they make the move to secondary school. By welcoming pupils onto the Gordano site, introducing them to new activities and giving them opportunities to work alongside children from other schools, we help them grow in confidence, develop a sense of belonging and begin to feel part of the wider Gordano community.
Our transition programme goes beyond preparing pupils for their first day in Year 7. It is about building connections, creating a sense of familiarity and ensuring children feel welcomed, supported and excited about the next stage of their educational journey.
A huge thank you to all the pupils and staff from our partner primary schools for making the festival such a success. We look forward to continuing to work together to create more opportunities for our local children to connect, learn and thrive.
