Outstanding Success at the Light House Partnership InterSchool Vocabulary Competition

A team of five fantastic students from Years 7–10 proudly represented Gordano School at this year’s Light House Partnership InterSchool Vocabulary Competition, going head to head with teams from Backwell, Churchill Academy and Sixth Form and Chew Valley schools.
The competition brought together some of the most enthusiastic and talented word lovers from across the trust, challenging students with advanced vocabulary tasks, quickfire rounds, and problem solving activities that tested both knowledge and confidence.
Our Gordano team put in an exceptional effort throughout the event, demonstrating teamwork, determination and impressive linguistic skill. Their hard work truly paid off — out of approximately 6,000 students eligible to take part, Gordano secured both first and second place overall.
We are incredibly proud to congratulate:
-
Megan, Year 10 – First Place Overall
-
Tom, Year 10 – Second Place Overall

This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the students’ dedication and love of language. They represented Gordano brilliantly, showcasing not only their vocabulary skills but also their positivity and school spirit.
Head of English Mrs Crosby said:
“We are absolutely thrilled with the students’ achievements. Their passion for language, dedication to improving their vocabulary and willingness to challenge themselves have truly paid off. They represented Gordano brilliantly, and we couldn’t be more proud of their success.”
A huge well done to all five team members for their enthusiasm and resilience throughout the competition. We look forward to building on this success and continuing to celebrate the power of words across our school community.
