Gordano70 Logo Competition Winner Announced

More than 200 young people. Hundreds of ideas.

One official Gordano70 logo!

The winning design
by Dominic Woolford, Year 8

We are delighted to announce the winner of the Gordano70 Logo Competition, the very first event in our year-long celebrations marking 70 years of Gordano School.

The competition captured the imagination of children and young people from across our community, with over 200 entries submitted by talented designers ranging from 4-year-old pre-school children and pupils in primary schools through to students in all our year groups at Gordano School.

The finalists and winner were announced by Student Leaders Ben and Bessie at an all-school assembly on the very last day of the summer term.

The creativity, imagination and pride shown in every design made judging incredibly difficult and we are so proud of everyone who took part.

Choosing the winner

The judging process took place in two stages.

Firstly, the Gordano70 Working Group carefully reviewed every entry and selected 10 finalists, as well as 31 Special Recognition Awards due to the number of high quality entries received.

The final winner was chosen by our Student Leaders and their choice reflected the design they felt best captured the spirit, values and identity of Gordano School while working successfully as a logo across a wide range of uses.

Congratulations to our winner, Dominic Woolford!

Here's why Student Leaders chose the design:

'So so good! Really stands out'

'I love the character and design of the book and griffin'

'The little drawings are very thoughtful!'

'Love everything about this logo'

Your design will now become the official Gordano70 logo, appearing throughout our anniversary celebrations over the coming year including two large celebration banners to be displayed either side of the Main Hall stage.

Congratulations to our 10 finalists

A lasting legacy

The logo competition marks only the beginning of Gordano70

Every suitable entry will become part of a spectacular collaborative artwork, a large outdoor Griffin installation on the Gordano School site. Each individual design will be transformed into a unique scale on the Griffin, creating a lasting piece of artwork that celebrates the creativity of our community.

Creating this opportunity ensures that many more young artists who took part will leave their mark on Gordano School's history and be able to see their entry every day, whether now or in the future.

The installation will be unveiled during the Creative Arts Festival in Summer 2027.

This is just the beginning...

The logo competition officially launches the Gordano70 celebrations, with many more exciting events to come, including:

  • Special anniversary activities for students throughout the school year

  • A Gordano70 Time Capsule

  • Community celebration events

  • Creative and heritage projects

And many more opportunities for our school community to celebrate 70 years of Gordano School.

Thank you to every child who entered the competition. Every design told part of the Gordano story, and together they demonstrate the creativity, talent and community spirit that make Gordano School so special.

70 Years. Hundreds of Stories. One Gordano.
