Sixth Form Students proudly represent Gordano School at North Somerset Debate Competition

Gordano Sixth Form students Alexander and Esther represented the school with confidence and composure at last night’s second round of the North Somerset Debate Competition, hosted by local MP Sadik Al Hassan at St Katherine’s School, Pill.

The event brought together students from schools and colleges across North Somerset to debate a challenging and topical motion:

This house believes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a threat to humanity and this Government must control it in all its forms.”

What followed was a fascinating debate with compelling arguments on both sides. Impressive confidence and quick thinking were needed as participants had to not only deliver their speech but also handle interruptions and rebuttal questions fired at them mid – flow, testing their quick thinking, clarity, and confidence. The result was a thought provoking and stretching evening for debaters and audience.

Thanks to Mr Eastwood for his support and encouragement. We wish the very best of luck to the next team of Gordano students taking part at the end of March
