Christmas Concert 2023

Gordano School were proud to host their Christmas Concert last week.

The event included a variety of performances from students across all year groups.  Some were extra-curricular clubs run by staff and a team of external peripatetic teachers, and some were performances by students who just love to sing, play and perform and have put their own pieces and ensembles together.

Mr Rumming and Drumline opened with a thunderous accompaniment to ‘Missing You’.

In keeping with the season we had a beautiful rendition of ‘River’ performed by Persephone of year 8. Rosalind in year 7 accompanied by Anais on the piano, sang 'O Holy Night' and other joyful jingles included ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ performed by the Orchestra, String Band’s ‘Walking in the Air’ and the Year 7 Choir sang ‘Feliz Navidad’.

Head of Music, Dr Humphries is always keen for something unique and quirky alongside the more traditional and to that end we were treated to Stanley and Jay in year 12, otherwise known as ‘Stay’ with an outstanding performance of ‘Pachelbel’s Canon in D’ on a keytar. Plus Joss and Anais’s beautiful duet of ‘Something Stupid’ included an instrumental section played on a plastic trombone kazoo!

.

The second half opened with a debut performance from new band on the block ‘Attacca Subito’ comprising band members Jay from year 12, Ben, Osian & Imogen of year 11. Some said their performance of ‘The Chain’ was better than Fleetwood Mac!

The Barbieshop Choir and Senior Choir sang some beautiful harmonies during ‘The First Noel’ and ‘For the Beauty of the Earth’.

Brass Band performed a rousing rendition of the James Bond theme and the Guitar Club led by peripatetic teacher Iain Hawkins brought the Blues Brothers to the evening complete with trilby hats and shades!

And finally to get us all in the mood for Christmas the evening ended with Jazz Band performing ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ with the audience invited to sing-along.

We are so proud to be able to showcase the wealth of talent at Gordano School and look forward to welcoming you all again to the school production of ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ in March.
