Careers Convention Inspires Students to Explore Their Futures

Our annual Careers Convention is always one of the busiest and most exciting events in the school calendar, and this year was no exception!
We were delighted to welcome more than 50 employers, universities, colleges and training providers, who generously gave their time to speak with students and their families about the huge range of opportunities available at Post-16 and beyond.
With employers representing a wide variety of job sectors, alongside local and national universities, local colleges and training providers, there was something for everyone. Students had the opportunity to explore different career pathways, discover new possibilities and find out more about the qualifications, skills and experience required for particular jobs and courses.
Although the event was open to all students and families, it was particularly valuable for those in Years 9 to 13, when thoughts about GCSE choices, Post-16 pathways, higher education and future careers begin to become increasingly important.
The evening provided a fantastic opportunity for students and parents to speak directly to employers and education providers, ask questions and gather first-hand information to help them make informed decisions about their next steps. Year 10 students were also able to use the evening to make valuable connections and enquire about potential work experience opportunities.
It was really useful having so many different employers, universities and colleges in one place. I found out about some opportunities I hadn’t thought about before. It definitely gave me a better idea of what I might like to do in the future.

Alongside the exhibition, a programme of seminars offered further guidance on some of the key pathways available to young people. Sessions focusing on Apprenticeships, College and University helped students and families understand the different options available and consider which route might be right for them.
Events like our Careers Convention are an important part of preparing our young people for life beyond Gordano. Whether students already have a clear idea about their future or are only just beginning to explore the possibilities, having so many organisations together under one roof provides an invaluable opportunity to ask questions, discover new pathways and start planning for the future.
The Careers Convention is such an important event in our calendar because it gives our students the chance to explore the incredible range of opportunities available to them. Being able to speak directly with employers, universities, colleges and training providers helps bring those options to life and encourages students to think carefully and confidently about their next steps.
