A Vibrant Start to the Year for Gordano Music

Term 1 has been full of energy, creativity, and community spirit for the Music department at Gordano School. Here's a look at some of the highlights:
A Level Students Experience Kate Bush Live
Our A Level Music students enjoyed a fantastic trip to a workshop and live concert by a Kate Bush tribute act. With one of her albums featured as a set work in the curriculum, this was a valuable opportunity to see the music brought to life on stage — deepening their understanding and appreciation of her artistry.
Rehearsals Begin for Our House
Preparations are well underway for our next school production, Our House, set to hit the stage in February. Rehearsals are in full swing, and excitement is building! Keep an eye on our website and social media for updates and ticket release information.
Drumming with the Grey Owl Cubs
We were thrilled to host a drumming workshop for the 2nd Portishead Scout Group Grey Owl Cubs. Nearly 30 enthusiastic primary-aged children explored rhythm through body percussion, voice, and instruments — a joyful and noisy celebration of music-making!
Singing Children of Kenya & Community Choirs
In a heartwarming morning of music, we welcomed the Singing Children of Kenya and eight local primary schools for a community singing event. Our own school choir also performed — impressively, after just three rehearsals! It was a beautiful moment of connection through song, bringing together voices from near and far.
Gordano Rocks the ArtPort Festival
Gordano School students proudly opened and closed the ArtPort Festival, with students showcasing their talents across multiple venues in the community:
- 90 Seconds kicked off the festival at Clarence House with a powerful set of rock classics, including a standout tribute to Ozzy Osbourne.
- Persephone, Year 10 delivered a stunning solo set at Impero Lounge, performing original songs and covers on piano, guitar, and vocals.
- Double Take packed out Siren’s Calling with a high-energy set of rock and pop covers that had the crowd begging for more.
- A number of Gordano students provided technical support - some even ran entire shows - demonstrating impressive professionalism and teamwork.
- The festival closed with another brilliant edition of OMG (Open Mic Gordano) at the Workmen’s Club Sports Bar, featuring over 20 student performers in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. The talent on display was truly remarkable!
We’re incredibly proud of our students for their dedication, creativity, and community spirit. Here's to an inspiring year ahead in Music at Gordano!
