Year 7 Students Celebrate Year of Axiom Success

Nine of our dedicated Year 7 mathematicians attended an end of year Axiom Celebration Party this week. They are part of the school's Axiom Maths programme, which supports students with the "heart and head" for Maths through Maths circles. They meet weekly with Miss Goodwin, the school's Axiom mentor and Maths Excellence Co-ordinator, to tackle a curriculum of challenging Maths problems.

The event was a celebration of their efforts and achievements across the year. This included reflecting on their experiences, engaging with new Maths puzzles, and even a Maths relay competition. There were also certificates for all students, as well as prizes in line with the 3 A's championed by the Axiom programme (adventurous, articulate, and accepting).

The same group of students also recently attended the Rising Mathematicians Festival, hosted by Axiom at the University of Bristol. Alongside students from across the South West, they explored what it means to be a university mathematician. This included talks from lecturers, exciting problem-solving challenges, and a campus tour.

Miss Goodwin commented "we are really proud of our students, who have shown a real dedication to the Axiom circles this year. They have flourished both as mathematicians and young people, and we can't wait to keep working with them".

The Axiom programme will continue in September, when we will also welcome a new Year 7 circle.
