School Closure due to Red Weather Warning

As you may be aware, the Met Office has issued a red weather warning for extreme heat, which is in place for Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Following strong advice from The Lighthouse Schools Partnership, alongside a review of our own site-specific risk assessment at Gordano School, we have taken the difficult decision to adjust our plans for these two days and will be closing the school to students and staff on Wednesday and Thursday.
Having carefully weighed all factors, we do not feel that we can provide a safe or comfortable learning environment in the conditions forecast for the next 2 days.
We understand that this may cause inconvenience for some families and we are very grateful for your understanding. Please be assured that this decision has not been taken lightly. The safety, wellbeing and comfort of our students and staff remain our priority, and we believe this is the most responsible course of action given the forecast conditions and the limitations of our site.
Staff will provide work for all students via ClassCharts in line with our severe weather protocols that have previously been shared with you. We are aware that students in Year 10 have mock examinations and Mr Tipler will be in contact with you directly as to how we will approach those missed sessions.
Our Year 11 prom this evening and Year 13 ball on Thursday will go ahead as planned. The Year 13 clearing day planned for tomorrow will be reorganised and the Sixth Form team will be in contact later today regarding arrangements for the ball. We will look forward to welcoming students back to school on Friday.
