Inspiring Futures at Nisbets: A Day of Opportunity for Year 9 Students

Our recent visit to Nisbets Catering in Avonmouth proved to be an inspiring and memorable experience for a group of our Year 9 students. The trip offered a unique opportunity to explore the vast range of career pathways within a leading industry organisation, while also building confidence, teamwork, and new skills.
The day began with a welcoming breakfast session, where students learned about the diverse roles available at Nisbets. A particular highlight was hearing about the “Women in Nisbets” programme, which champions female talent and career development within the company. This gave our students valuable insight into the importance of representation and the many opportunities open to them in the future.
In a fantastic role-reversal moment, our students then took the lead, teaching members of the Nisbets team how to play Boccia, a precision sport that promotes inclusivity and teamwork. The activity was filled with laughter, collaboration and a shared sense of achievement, showcasing the confidence and leadership of our students.

Following a guided tour of the impressive showroom and a delicious lunch, the group then explored one of Nisbets’ busy warehouses. Here, students witnessed cutting-edge robotic systems in action, gaining a first-hand look at how technology is transforming logistics and operations. The experience was truly phenomenal and sparked curiosity about careers in engineering, warehousing, and automation.

This visit not only broadened our students’ understanding of the world of work but also empowered them to think ambitiously about their futures.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Nisbets for hosting such a welcoming, engaging and insightful day, as well as to the Bristol Bears Community Foundation team for organising and making this valuable opportunity possible.
