Year 7s Put Their Knowledge to the Test in House Quiz Competition

This term saw an exciting and lively addition to the Year 7 calendar as students took part in the General Knowledge Quiz. Designed to be inclusive, engaging and fun, the competition brought together students from across the year group, encouraging teamwork, creativity and house spirit.
Importantly, as Year 7 students transition from their tutor groups into their House System in Term 6, events like this provide a valuable opportunity for students to build connections, develop house pride, and feel more included in their new house communities.
The quiz featured four varied rounds, each testing a different set of skills. Students tackled a general knowledge round, followed by a picture round, a music round, and finally a puzzle round. With such a diverse range of challenges, teams were encouraged to include a mix of strengths, making collaboration key to success.
The event had a fantastic atmosphere throughout, with students embracing the spirit of the competition. House pride was on full display, with colourful house t-shirts, flags, and enthusiastic cheerin. While the quiz was competitive, the emphasis remained firmly on enjoyment and participation, with a light-hearted approach that allowed everyone to get involved.
Adding to the excitement, there were prizes on offer—and even the occasional surprise appearance from Heads of House, sometimes bearing chocolate rewards! The event also served as a valuable opportunity to help Year 7 students feel more connected to the school’s House System, building friendships and fostering a sense of belonging.
Tutors were warmly encouraged to attend and support their teams—although strict instructions were given: no cheating allowed!
One Year 7 student commented, “It was really fun working with friends in my house and cheering everyone on. I liked the music round the best, and it made me feel more part of the house.”
