West of England Netball Finals – Year 7 and Year 9 Success

Our Year 7 and Year 9 netball teams travelled to the West of England Netball Finals as reigning champions in both age groups, a fantastic achievement in itself and a reflection of their commitment throughout the season.

Year 7

Year 7 faced Chipping Sodbury (South Gloucestershire winners) in their semi-final. After a competitive start, the team showed real determination and secured a strong 8–5 win. Martha was deservedly named Player of the Match for her excellent performance.

In the final, the girls met Ralph Allen School (Bath winners). The game remained incredibly close throughout all four eight‑minute quarters. Flick and Martha were outstanding in defence, Sienna, Rose and Nina worked tirelessly through the centre court, and Polly and Sophia battled hard in the attacking circle. In an intense finish, the girls were narrowly defeated 6–7, agonisingly, their equalising shot was in the air as the final whistle blew.

Despite the result, finishing as runners‑up in such a competitive tournament is an exceptional achievement.

Year 9

Year 9 began their campaign against St Bede’s (Bristol winners). After a slightly slow start, the team found their stride and secured an impressive 17–9 victory. Laraya was named Player of the Match for her outstanding contribution.

The final saw them take on Wellsway (Bath winners). It was a thrilling match from the first whistle. Gordano trailed 3–1 at the end of the first quarter, but by half‑time had pulled ahead 7–4, and finished the third quarter leading 8–7. The final eight minutes were end‑to‑end, with both teams trading goals, but Gordano held their nerve to clinch a 13–12 win. A fantastic performance from Sophia, Esmee, Gazella, Bella, Livvy, Eliana, Laraya, Gracie and Jemima.

“I am incredibly proud of every single player who represented Gordano today. The effort, teamwork and sportsmanship shown by both year groups were outstanding. From start to finish, the girls demonstrated resilience, determination and a real passion for their sport. They should be extremely proud of themselves for their achievements and the way they represented Gordano Sport. Well done, everyone!” — Mrs Hawkins
