World Book Day at Gordano School: A Celebration of Stories, Creativity and Community

World Book Day at Gordano School was once again a vibrant celebration of reading, imagination and community spirit. With activities running throughout the day, students and staff embraced the joy of stories in every corner of the school.

Quizzes and Creativity Across the School

During tutor time, students took part in a fun and engaging World Book Day quiz, testing their literary knowledge and sparking conversations about favourite books.

Students also had the chance to get creative in the Design a Bookmark Competition, submitting colourful and imaginative entries that showcased their artistic skills and love of reading.

The Great Big World Book Day Footy and Booky Quiz

The fun continued with The Great Big World Book Day Footy and Booky Quiz, where an enthusiastic group of Year 7 boys tested their knowledge of both literature and football. Congratulations to Nate and Mark, who achieved a remarkable 20/20 score, securing a well-earned win!

Adventure in the Library: Scavenger Hunt & Book Giveaway

During lunchtime students flocked to the library for a lively Scavenger Hunt, racing to solve clues hidden among the shelves. Also available were this year’s selection of World Book Day books, giving students the chance to take home exciting new reads and discover fresh authors.

Costumes That Brought Stories to Life

Staff dressed up as a wonderful variety of characters, including Shakespeare and his famous creations plus a selection of much-loved Roald Dahl favourites causing some whizz‑popping chaos. The English team embraced themed costumes such as crime, romance and travel, while the Languages department heroically channelled Asterix.

The effort and creativity from staff was brilliant!

A Literary Treat for Staff: Blind Date With a Book

Staff members took part in Blind Date with a Book, an activity that encouraged them to share stories they love. Participants wrapped a favourite book, attached a short summary, and handed it in to the library. Staff then gathered after school for biscuits and book swaps, enjoying a warm and relaxed celebration of reading.

Reflecting on the day’s success, Mrs Crosby, Head of English, shared her appreciation:

“A huge thank you to all staff who got involved in making World Book Day such a joyful and memorable event. Your enthusiasm, creativity and willingness to celebrate stories with our students helps foster a real love of reading across the school. We are so grateful for the effort everyone put in.”
