Year 9 Take Part in ‘The Blunt Truth’ Safety and Awareness Workshops

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting students’ safety and wellbeing, Year 9 recently took part in The Blunt Truth workshops, an educational programme delivered by the North Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership.
This important initiative aims to educate young people about the consequences of carrying a knife, how to respond if someone they know is stabbed, and how to report concerns—whether to school staff, the police, or anonymously via Fearless.org.
The activities included:
- A thought‑provoking film exploring different outcomes of reporting—or not reporting—knowledge of someone carrying a knife.
- A guidance and Q&A session led by local police officers, encouraging students to ask questions and think critically about real-life situations.
- Practical first-aid guidance from British Army medics, giving students useful life skills on how to stay calm and respond in an emergency.
These sessions were organised by our Head of PSHE, Mrs Trevethan, as part of our wider curriculum which encourages young people to make sensible choices and look after one another.
Reflecting on the event, Mrs Trevethan said:
“Our Year 9 students showed real maturity and curiosity throughout the workshops. The Blunt Truth team delivered powerful, honest messages, and I’m proud of how thoughtfully our students responded. These sessions are vital in helping young people understand how they can protect themselves and support their community.”
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all representatives from Avon and Somerset Police, Avon Fire and Rescue, North Somerset Council, and medics and surgeons from The British Army. Their expertise, real‑life insight and engaging delivery ensured the workshops were both memorable and highly educational.
