Gordano School Launches First Primary Legacy Sports Festival of the Year with Speedstacking and Agility Challenges
Gordano School hosted the first Legacy Sports Festival of this academic year, welcoming 49 enthusiastic Year 4 pupils from four local primary schools (High Down, St Peter’s, St Joseph’s and Trinity) to take part in an afternoon of fun, challenge, and teamwork.
The festival, part of the Gordano School Legacy Festival programme, is an annual series of events designed to support pupils’ transition to secondary school. Through engaging sports-based activities, the programme helps children build confidence, teamwork skills, and positive relationships with their peers and the wider school community.
During the event, pupils took part in two dynamic workshops — Speedstacking and Agility — before returning for a series of Speedstacking Agility team races that brought all participants together in friendly competition.
Attendees from Trinity Primary said:
“It was a great event! The children really enjoyed themselves.”
“It is all about staying calm so your hands aren’t shaking when you do the cups.”
“This is so much fun. I’m going to ask for the cups for Christmas.”
“It was exciting to compete against the other school. We should do that more often.”
“I improved my skills so much! Come battle me!”
Teachers and organisers praised the visiting pupils for displaying the School Games values of Passion, Determination, Teamwork, Self-Belief, and Honesty throughout the afternoon.
“It was wonderful to see such energy and enthusiasm from all the children,” said Shane German, North Somerset SGO and Primary PE Association Lead. “The Legacy Festival is all about developing confidence and connection through movement — and today’s event did exactly that.”
Both workshops encouraged pupils to challenge their coordination, speed, agility, and precision — activities known to strengthen both body and brain. Research shows that these kinds of exercises can help create new neural pathways, improving concentration, creativity, and memory.
