Shannon House Raises £200 for Blue Cross Charity

Shannon House proudly raised approximately £200 for the Blue Cross, a charity chosen by students for its dedication to helping sick, injured, and homeless pets. Over the course of the week, students from all year groups came together to take part in a range of fun and engaging fundraising events.

The week featured a variety of activities, including a Lucky Dip and Guess the Sweets in the Jar competition, which kicked things off with great enthusiasm. Excitement peaked during a thrilling Students vs. Staff Football Match, with support from Year 8 Shannon girls joining the teacher team.

A bustling Cake Sale, the ever-popular Sponge the Teacher event - featuring brave volunteers Mr. Horner, Mrs. Snailum, and Miss Simpson - and the high-energy Nerf Gun Challenge were enjoyed, all in the name of a good cause.

The week concluded with a bang – literally! - with the Gordano Drum and Bass Disco, followed by student DJ DJ Bullet (Ben, Year 9). The DJ team, which included Zach, Joshua and Max (also Year 9), kept the crowd moving, while students in high-vis vests ensured everything ran safely and smoothly as part of the event’s security team. Special thanks to Jordan in Year 9 for his role in ‘event security’.

A special shoutout goes to the Cake Sale team from 8S1, the Lucky Dip creators which was the entire 7S2 class, and everyone involved in the planning, organising, and execution of the events - your teamwork, responsibility, and enthusiasm truly made the week a success.

Head of Shannon House, Mr Horner, said: “I’m so proud of how our students came together not only to raise money, but to have fun, show leadership, and support a cause they care about. Their energy and compassion were on full display.”

Assistant Head of Shannon House, Ms Snailum, said: “The funds raised will support the Blue Cross in continuing its vital work with animals in need across the UK.”
