Gordano School is basking in the glory of an outstanding few weeks of hockey action, with multiple teams delivering exceptional performances across a range of age groups. The school’s recent hockey success, which includes a Plate County Championship victory, has highlighted the talent, teamwork, and determination of our student-athletes.
The excitement began with the Year 9 hockey team, who proved their dominance in the North Somerset tournament. Playing with precision and unity, they finished the afternoon unbeaten, leaving no doubt that they were the team to beat. Their impressive performance showcased their collective effort and skill, setting the tone for what was to come.
Next, the Year 7 girls had their first taste of tournament play, with 17 players competing across two teams. Despite facing tough competition from St Kath’s and Backwell, the young athletes performed admirably. Team A finished in an impressive 2nd place, while Team B secured a respectable 5th place, marking a promising debut for the next generation of Gordano hockey talent.
The pinnacle of the school’s hockey achievements came from the Under 16 team, which included players from Years 9, 10, and 11. In a thrilling Plate County Final against a strong St Kath’s team, the girls demonstrated exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship. The match concluded with a resounding 4-0 victory for Gordano, crowning them as Plate County Champions and solidifying their place as one of the top hockey teams in the region.
Emma Harradine, Head of Physical Education at Gordano School, expressed her pride in the teams' accomplishments, saying, “What a fantastic few weeks for Gordano School and all the teams involved! We’re incredibly proud of the effort, commitment, and sportsmanship displayed by all teams, from Year 7 to Under 16. This success exemplifies the spirit of competition and teamwork that we foster here at Gordano.”
