Well done to all the Year 8 students who participated in the Speaking Competition earlier this term. The standard this year was impeccable. Every single student who took part did an incredible job. To participate each student selected a topic of interest to them, then learnt and presented the speeches to teachers and their fellow English students.
English Teacher Ms La Fevre commented “All students were clear, confident, creative and mature, choosing the finalists was a challenging task as all the speeches were of a very high standard – with a range of interesting and varied topics tackled.”
Topics featured this year included; climate change, chewing gum, mobile phones, legalising euthanasia and even the subject of giving speeches themselves! The best speeches made it into the final round. This year ‘Best Topic’ was awarded to River Standerwick for her speech on ‘Pressure on Teens.’ The ‘Best Team’ award went to Zoe Darwall, Chris Wilson, Tom Willey for their speech on Legalising Euthanasia and ‘Best Speaker’ award went to Eve Gillam. Well done everyone.
