We are doing a lot of planning in school currently. We have been working with North Somerset Council to develop a scheme to redevelop our Dining Hall area and add facilities to allow us to increase our intake number by one class. This is a wonderful opportunity for the school as our catering facilities are insufficient and cramped. I really look forward to seeing another year of physical improvement to the environment at Gordano and we hope to be able to publish some plans soon to show you what we have been working on.
Yesterday’s announcement on school funding is great news for Gordano. Our region is amongst the worst funded in England and, if you regularly read the newsletter, you will know that money is incredibly tight. I hope that the rebalancing of school funding will relieve that pressure a little bit at least.
If you had sons or daughters in Year 11 or Year 13 last year I hope that you will be joining us in school over the next couple of weeks to see them presented with their certificates. Our Guest of Honour at the GCSE Presentation Evening is Captain David Bence RN, who is an Old Gordanian. At the Sixth Form Presentation Evening we will be joined by the new Vice-Chancellor of Bristol University, Professor Hugh Brady. These events are always highly enjoyable and it is right that we give credit to the students who have achieved so much and shown such strength of character.
Evidence of our commitment to the whole person is apparent in the high activity of our extra-curricular programme presently. Rehearsals are in an advanced stage for music concerts, carol services and the school production and school sports teams are competing and thriving in national and regional competitions. If your son or daughter is not currently involved in extra-curricular please have a look at the menu of activities on the website and encourage them to get involved.
