Gordano School Sixth Form fund-raise for charity 16-20th October 2017
Raising and Giving or RAG Week is a traditional part of Gordano Sixth Form culture. Organised by a student committee, the aim of the event is to raise as much money as possible for charity, by involving as many people around school as possible.
This year, any money raised will be going to Bristol based charity, Mend the Gap and the national mental health awareness charity, Mind.
A major part of RAG consists of Sixth Formers flaunting a fantastic array of fancy dress and costume design during the week. Pre-decided themes for each day of the charity event encourage the entire sixth form student body to join in, including the teaching staff.
The 2017 RAG committee are anticipating some imaginative and outlandish costume creations, as the themes announced for this year include Eras, Disney, Where’s Wally, Pairs and pyjamas.
James Ellis and Charlotte Yeaman, RAG Chairs, commented,
“We’ve worked really hard this term to make sure everything is set for RAG week. The dedication of the RAG Committee has helped us a lot. This year should be great for Sixth Form in terms of the money raised as we have managed to get the whole school in non-uniform on Friday, which has never happened before. Hopefully it will be a great success.”
The Sixth Form Team have also arranged for a lunchtime fundraising festival- known as RAG Fayre. This event is open to the whole school, and for a small fee, pupils can access a range of fairground-style stalls, face painting, games, food stands and fun activities, all organised by the RAG committee.
Teachers will be limbering up in preparation for this year’s Teachers vs Students fitness ‘bleep test’, always a competitive addition to the week’s event.
RAG Fest, organised this year by Year 13 student, Lizzie Wilson, is open to students and parents, showcasing some of the school’s finest performance artists. Again, money raised through ticket sales goes directly to RAG charities.
If you’d like to donate to RAG this year, please send your donations via the Sixth Form Office.
