Modern Foreign Languages Faculty celebrate Languages Week
Gordano School have been celebrating Languages at a week-long event in school. Pupils were encouraged to brush up on their knowledge of different countries through a range of fun lunchtime activities organised by the Languages Department.
On Monday, students were able to have their faces painted with a flag of their choice.
Tuesday saw staff and students put their dance moves to the test with a whistle-stop lesson in Flamenco, Tango and Salsa, celebrating some of Spain and South America’s most popular dancing styles.
Wednesday’s festival of food left pupils spoiled for choice at a lunchtime languages café. A special thank you to our Gordano Partner, Aldi, who kindly donated the food so that the café would be possible to run. Students and staff worked hard to provide a range of dishes from different countries. In a fun language twist, students tested their language skills as food orders at the café were taken in either French, Spanish or German. Bon Appetit!
Thursday was international film taster day, showcasing some recent stars on screen from abroad. This year a Manga film (Japanese animation).
The week’s fun finished with Friday’s ‘Fun with Flags’, a competition that would make Sheldon Cooper proud. Students pitted their wits together to participate in a flag quiz competition.
Miss Sciarrino commented,
“We love to promote the use of different languages around school, and to provide a bit of fun for staff and students during the school day. Our now annual Languages Week is the perfect antidote for students to let their hair down and to absorb a little international culture during their day. Thank you to everyone who has supported the week, and volunteered their time to make this year’s event a real hit.”
