Gordano Orienteering team wins again

A strong Gordano team won the second of eight Avon Schools League races last Sunday. Fifteen Gordano runners took part, navigating over the open slopes of the northern tip of the Quantock Hills.
Cecilie Andersen won her course in a remarkably fast time, with both her and Jenny Green securing maximum points in their class. It was particularly pleasing to see strong performances from our four new Year 7 runners, with Christopher Chinn, Laura Gillespie, Rebecca Wheatcroft and Jess King all scoring well in their first competitive event. Ben Maliphant and Will Jones were Gordano’s other high points scorers.
With numerous runners from the South West Junior Squad taking part, points were hard earnt on several courses. The tough slopes and undergrowth on the longer courses gave Adam Grey, Ed Wheatcroft, Harry Moore and James Haysom a real test of their fitness. Sinead Golding, Nathan Gillespie and Sofie Andersen were the other members of the Gordano team.
Gordano now lead the Avon Schools League by a substantial margin and we hope to retain the League trophy that we won last year. More details can be found here:
Our next fixture is Sunday 27th on Wavering Down, Winscombe with the next fortnightly training after school on Friday 25th. For more information about Gordano Orienteering club, please see Mrs Golding or Miss Rose.
