Expansion work for a suite of new buildings has now commenced at Gordano School. Contractors Wilmott Dixon will be working on the project over the coming months to create a suite of additional facilities for the school.
The project will provide the school with seven new classrooms, an IT suite, a larger kitchen, new dining hall and a ground floor Sixth Form Learning Resource Centre. The new look facility project has been funded by North Somerset’s Basic Needs Fund and the site has been carefully designed to make best use of space.
Gordano School is making plans to accommodate an extra 28 Portishead school places a year from September 2018 due to growing school numbers.
Interestingly, the site on which Gordano School sits is adjacent to an area identified in the 1950s as containing ancient remains, possibly a Roman Villa, and so careful consultation with English Heritage has been pivotal to this project. An archaeological survey is required before any major works are carried out in order to ensure that historical evidence remains intact.
