Headteacher's Blog

19th July 2013

Last week provided some of the most uplifting moments in my time as Head at Gordano. Our Fashion Show and DT Celebration Event on Tuesday showcased the confidence and talent of our students and gave parents and community a chance to see their flair and creativity in action. The Summer concert on Wednesday was up to our usual very high standard. (I wonder how many schools could turn out Dvorak’s New World Symphony for an end of term concert!) On Thursday our governors had an update on achievement in the school from the Assistant Director of Education, Paul Jacobs and reviewed progress on the plans for our new Sports Hall. The week reached a grand finale on Friday with a sunny and very enjoyable Sports Day which saw a number of long standing records fall.
All this came quickly after a most successful Activities Week. It has been very good to see so many of our students thrive and achieve on residential visits. These experiences are a tremendous enhancement of the school’s educational mission and form some of the most memorable times for our students. I have had great reports from Year 10 Work Experience and Sixth Form Futures Weeks too.
We have been celebrating students’ achievements in many ways in recent months and this week’s Going for Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze treats are another way to confirm our students in good habits of aspiration and hard work. I hope that every young person in the school deserves and receives recognition for some aspect of success in their membership of our community.
I would like to end this last newsletter of the year by saying thank you to parents for your consistent support for me and for the school. I count myself as being very fortunate to work in this school and in this community and I know that your goodwill towards the school is the bedrock of our success. I wish you all a really happy and enjoyable time with your families over the summer and I look forward to the start of another action packed school year in September.
